Kitten Discovers Strange Looking "Cat" in Nursery and They Turn into Unexpected Friends

A kitten discovered a strange looking "cat" in the nursery, and they turned out to be the cutest friends.

Two newborn kittens were found on the streets without a mother. A Good Samaritan brought them to a local shelter as they were in desperate need of care. Orphan Kitten Club was then contacted and immediately offered to help.

Yige Zhao, Satellite Nursery Coordinator of Orphan Kitten Club, took them into her nursery. The kittens were given round-the-clock feedings and placed in a cozy incubator to help regulate their body temperature.

The little black kitten (Frodo) was the smaller of the two, weighing in at just 77 grams. With proper care and nutritious food, they quickly bounced back.

"They were so small that I had initially mis-sexed them and named them Frodo and Samwise, a dynamic duo from Lord of the Rings. It wasn't until a few days later that I realized they were both girls," Yige shared with Love Meow.

A few days later, Yige got a call about several orphaned puppies that needed help. Their dog mother (rescued by The Animal Pad) sadly didn't make it.

"The puppies were born premature and looked very 'gummy' due to having underdeveloped fur. They were transferred to Orphan Kitten Club since we have experience with neonatal care."

The kittens were relocated to a kitty pen, while the puppies moved into their incubator. Over the next week, the feline sisters could hear squeaky cries in the background but couldn't quite make out what they were.

A couple of weeks later, Frodo was up on her paws playing in the nursery when she noticed a strange looking "cat," a loaf of fluff shaped like a potato, in front of her. As it turned out, it was one of the puppies named Ulrich, and he was very sleepy.

Frodo was a bit hesitant at first, but mustered enough courage to sniff the loaf.

"When she realized he was just a roly poly potato, she decided it was safe to be friends," Yige told Love Meow.

Frodo sat down next to sleepy Ulrich and inched closer to him by the second. When Ulrich rolled over on his back, she took it as an invitation to cuddle.

She gently placed her paw on his chonky belly before Ulrich lazily turned towards her. They eventually fell asleep together holding paws.

Frodo seemed to know that this strange looking "cat" could use some snuggly love.

After a long cuddle session with her new buddy, she ran back to her sister Sam as if to tell her all about the new friend she'd made.

"Frodo is two weeks ahead of Ulrich developmentally which makes them a perfect match for now. Once Ulrich becomes bigger he will need to learn how to be a puppy by interacting with his puppy siblings Jonas and Charlotte," Yige shared with Love Meow.

"We are enjoying every moment of this friendship while it lasts!"

The kittens' playpen is right next to the pups, where they can see their sleepy canine friends. The puppies enjoy the rumbling purrs from the kittens, their sweetest lullaby.

"Sam and Frodo are some of the happiest, most affectionate kittens we've ever fostered."

Today, the two sisters turned five weeks old, and their canine friends have all opened their eyes.
